Switzerland’s official name is the Swiss Confederation. The name comes from the first canton that joined in 1291, called “Schwyz” in German. This name was later used for the whole country.

Switzerland has more than 9 million people. About 2.4 million of them are foreigners, making up 27% of the population.

The country has 26 cantons, each with its own local government. Switzerland is the only country in the world with three official languages: German (spoken in 20 cantons), French (in 5 cantons), and Italian (in 1 canton).

In Zug, for example, income tax is about 12%, one of the lowest in the world. This attracts many wealthy people to live and pay taxes in Switzerland.

Switzerland is a world leader in banking and insurance. Its banks are known for being safe and offering good financial services.

By the end of 2024, around 8,600 Moroccans were living in Switzerland, mainly in Lausanne and Geneva.

In 2023, Switzerland exported goods worth 402 million Swiss francs to Morocco, while imports from Morocco were 331 million Swiss francs. This makes Morocco an important economic partner for Switzerland in North Africa.
